If you use certain BlackBerry APIs, you have to get code signing keys and sign your .COD file with them, before you will be able to install and run these applications on a BlackBerry device. You can learn more about which APIs need to be signed here.

Research In Motion today announced new versions of various BlackBerry developer tools that further support innovative, streamlined mobile application development for BlackBerry smartphones. The developer tool updates include a new public beta of the BlackBerry JDE Plug-in for Eclipse, as well as new releases of the BlackBerry Plug-in for Microsoft Visual Studio, BlackBerry MDS Studio, and Plazmic Content Developer’s Kit for the BlackBerry platform.

What you're seeing now is a first look at RIM's initial response to Apple's highly popular on-device iPhone App Store. Aimed to launch on the the BlackBerry Storm's version 4.7 operating system, the BlackBerry Application Center will allow the user to find, browse and install/upgrade 3rd party BlackBerry apps hosted by carriers.

The BlackBerry application marketplace might not be as easy to navigate at Apple's App Store and Java might not be as much fun as Cocoa Touch for developers, but there are still some great BlackBerry applications out there. 10 of my favorites: Opera Mini, Flickr, Facebook, NewsGator Go!, Blackbird, BBMetaBlog, Google Suite, Sudoku, Mobile Quotes and Analysis for BlackBerry, TV Guide Mobile.

The Blackberry Browser has very little javascript support, but it does have support to get GPS coordinates from a device with builtin GPS, like the Blackberry 8800, 8820, and 8310, which could be used to create some very cool location based websites.
